Lu’ma Medical Centre

Lu’ma Medical Centre located in East Vancouver, is not your typical health clinic. When you first walk into the clinic one of the first things you may notice is the Indigenous artwork from across Canada, and an area available to make medicine bundles with traditional plants. The atmosphere of the centre feels relaxed, welcoming. Another big difference is that it is the only clinic in Vancouver with a team of all-Indigenous doctors: Dr. Alexandra King from the Nipissing Nation in Ontario, and Anishinaabe Dr. Michael Dumont. As described on the organization’s website:

Dr. Michael Dumont, MD, CCFP

Michael is Anishinaabe with family ties to the Shawanaga First Nation. He is a family doctor with a focus in Aboriginal Health and takes a holistic approach to health and wellness. He is accepting new patients! Book your first appointment (meet and greet) by calling our Medical Centre. Doctor’s hours are  Mon-Thur from 9am to 4pm

Dr. Alexandra King, MD, FRCPC

Alexandra is a citizen of Nipissing First Nation (ON). She is a specialist in Internal Medicine, working with patients in a culturally safe way to heal from acute and chronic conditions, HIV and hepatitis C. Appointments can be made with Dr. King through a doctor or Nurse Practitioner referral.
The clinic is currently small, but the staff have bigger goals and plans. The hope is to eventually add more clinical positions, such as an in-house counselor, elder and traditional healer.
